Do you think the Manistee Lake Improvement Board should be retained?
The Manistee Lake Association (MLA) was instrumental in the establishment of the Manistee Lake Improvement Board (MLIB). The MLIB was created to implement projects to improve the Manistee Lake environment. It's ability to raise funds through special assessments on all lake area residents was important to MLIB being a useful tool to implement important projects such as control of Eurasian Milfoil, improvement of the lake fishery and studies of the need for lake level controls. The MLIB established a 3 year project to address milfoil control and water quality issues. At the end of that 3 years, in 2010, the MLIB needs to decide whether or not it should continue to address on going lake needs or dissolve itself. As an important voice in this discussion, the Manistee Lake Association needs to adopt a formal position on this question at our meeting on the Memorial Day 2010 weekend so that we can let the MLIB know where we stand. Anyone who wishes to share their thoughts on this subject is encouraged to let your MLA officers know where you stand. e mail your comments to MLA President Seth Phillips at shp00@att.net. You can also post them to the MLA site on Facebook if you'd like to have a broader public discussion of the subject.
